How to Play PathFinder

The Objective

The goal of PathFinder is simple: guess the football player based on their career path. We'll show you the badges of the clubs they played for in chronological order, and your job is to name the player!

Starting a Game

  1. Enter Your Name: Start by entering your name. This will be used to track your score on the leaderboard.
  2. Select a Category: Choose a Premier League era. Do you want to test your knowledge of current stars, 2010s icons, or legends from the 90s?
  3. Select a Difficulty: Pick your challenge level.
    • Beginner: Features well-known, household names. Perfect for casual fans.
    • Professional: A tougher challenge with players who had solid, but not always superstar, careers.
    • Expert: For the true football nerds! Features obscure players, cult heroes, and short-term loanees.
  4. Start Quiz: Once you've made your selections, the "Start Quiz" button will activate. Click it to begin!

Gameplay

For each question, you'll see a sequence of club badges. Type your guess into the input box and hit "Submit".

  • Correct Answer: If you're right, you'll earn points and see a confirmation with the player's photo. The faster you answer, the more bonus points you get!
  • Incorrect Answer: If you're wrong, don't worry. You can try again or choose to reveal the answer.
  • Skipping: Stumped? You can skip any player to move on to the next question, but you won't get any points for it.

Scoring

Your score is based on correctness and speed. A correct answer is worth a base of 1,000 points, with a time bonus of up to 300 extra points for answering quickly.

Tips & Tricks

  • Pay Attention to Order: The clubs are shown in the order the player played for them. A move from a small club to a giant can be a big clue.
  • Look for Rivalries: Did a player move directly between two rival clubs? That's often a memorable career path.
  • Don't Forget Last Names: Our answer checking is flexible. If you know the player's last name (even if you misspell it slightly), that's often enough to get it right. For players with multi-word last names like "van Dijk", either "van Dijk" or just "Dijk" will work.
